Nowadays, almost everyone is on the internet. Even grannies are using Whatsapp or Wechat to talk to their children and grand children. It seems very obvious that marketing on the internet is a very reasonable thing for any business to do. But is it for everyone?
Whenever I go to a party, no matter I am meeting new people or meeting up with old friends, colleagues or classmates, there is always someone asks, “Do you think I should have a website?”.
Indeed, there are still plenty of business owners do not own a website. They are not necessarily small businesses like a tiny corner shop in a local residential area. There are plenty of business and professionals that do not own a website, nor have any online presence. As usual, there are always reasons for that:
- We have plenty of business. We are busy enough.
- We get our business through word of mouth
- There are regulations about advertising our business
- We don’t have the manpower to look after it
- Our industry doesn’t get business online
- and etc
Just like many things, you’ve got to believe in it before you would bother to put some effort and energy into it. Any project, from a gardening hobby to boosting your business with online marketing, if you are sceptical about it, you won’t do it well. And surprise… it doesn’t work or doesn’t work as well as you hope. So, before you join in the online marketing crowd,
Ask yourself: Do I believe online marketing can achieve what I want?
Only if you believe online marketing is a viable solution to help you get leads or business, then you will pay more attention to it between many other problems and tasks you have to deal with and make it happen.
